The Great Pagoda is one of the most fascinating attractions at Kew Gardens. It is a truly distinctive historic building, with architecture inspired by China and beautiful golden dragons on its roofs, making it spectacular even from a distance. The pagoda was designed by the architect Sir William Chambers and completed in 1762, at a time when European interest in East Asian art and architecture was flourishing. Chambers had travelled to China and sought to reinterpret elements of Chinese architecture within the landscape of Kew. Climbing to the top takes a little effort, as there are many steps and the staircase is narrow, but the view fully rewards it. From above, you can admire the gardens, the surrounding greenery, and a wonderful panorama across London. A place full of history, beautifully maintained, and absolutely not to be missed during a visit to Kew Gardens. Enjoy your day.

A standout feature of Kew Gardens, this magnificent Pagoda dates back to 1762, and looks superb thanks to a comprehensive restoration carried out in 2018. It owes its design to architect Sir William Chambers, who was inspired by buildings he witnessed while visiting China. It stands 163 feet tall, and houses 253 steps. To climb to the top you'll need a separate ticket, valid only for a specific date and time, thus preventing overcrowding. Even without ascending the steps to see the views of the gardens and London beyond, it's easy to appreciate this structure. Part of the 2018 restoration involved the reinstatement of 80 wooden dragons around the structure, featuring striking colours and exceptional detail.

Highly recommend going to the top of the Pagoda gear views. Cost me £4.50 and I was about 20 mins inside the Pagoda. Images I've added are mainly the view from the Pagoda.

You can climb the 10 storey building on the hour & half hour. Managed by Royal Historic Monuments - NOT KEW - there is a small seperate fee, even for Kew members, well worth it,: a fascinating building, now fully renovated. Great, friendly, well informed staff, great views.
