Dog friendly and lovely, natural walks. Plenty of footpaths to follow, shady woodlands and beautiful fields. Wear suitable shoes (walking boots/sturdy trainers!)

If you arrive here expecting a castle - you may feel a little disappointed because whilst the ruins still remain, it is situated within someone's private grounds - near the sharp bend in the road. However, there's a number of paths which loop around and they do make for a nice stroll. Yes, it is advisable to wear walking shoes or boots - especially when it's wet. The woods are lovely and shady in hot weather and there are some great views. Whilst there is a river nearby, describing it as a waterfall is a bit of a stretch - but again, it matters not because the whole there and around is pretty. Just follow your nose and enjoy.

Located just on the outskirts of Carmarthen, this woodland offers excellent potential for a weekend walk, though it desperately needs a bit of maintenance. ​The Positives: Parking is free, spacious, and easily accessible right off the main road. The area itself is full of lovely trees, ancient oaks, a well-established wildlife ecosystem (we saw buzzards!), and an interesting carved totem at the park entrance. It takes about an hour or two to fully look around. ​The Terrain & Navigation: The paths are hilly with steep inclines and declines. Unfortunately, time has taken its toll on the infrastructure—many of the wooden steps are deteriorated, paths are eroded, and the routes are poorly signposted, making it easy to drift off-course. There is a "waterfall" mentioned on the map, but it’s really just a small stream and isn't worth the steep, poorly defined trek across the road to find it. ​Room for Improvement: Watch your step as dog mess is quite apparent on the paths. This place has so much potential, but it really needs clearer trail markers, repaired steps, and a dedicated dog bin installed in the main car park.

Magical little place to visit and very beautiful. I went with my dog and we had an adventure, free parking so time to explore. We walked the route towards the woodland, initially for the first 15 mins the path is very open and flat, but as you get more into the woodland area it is steep and has many levels to it. We enjoyed it very much, but just be mindful of this as it is physically quite a demanding walk. There is a huge big field just beyond the parking area and this is perfect for having a walk with the dogs too
