Ride a miniature steam railway through Town Park on a delightful 10-minute journey suitable for all ages with free entry and volunteer-run charm.

Halton Miniature Railway offers families a unique experience riding on a 7 1/4" gauge railway that stretches almost a mile through Town Park in Runcorn. The 10-minute train journey is suitable for all ages and provides a delightful outing for those interested in heritage railways and miniature locomotives. Opened in 1979 and run entirely by volunteers from the Halton Miniature Railway Society Limited, the railway features a variety of locomotives including petrol, steam, and electric engines that members bring to operate. There is no charge to ride the train, though donations are welcomed to help cover operational costs. The venue is family-friendly with several amenities including a free children's play area within Town Park, picnic tables for outdoor dining, and refreshments available from the adjacent Ski Centre. Children must be accompanied by an adult on the train. The railway operates on a timetable basis, and visitors are advised to check running times by calling the Ski Centre on 01928 701965 after 1pm, as the railway is volunteer-operated.

Great place to visit when it's on. I've taken my children a few times now, remember the railway is run by volunteers and although it's free donations do help towards the upkeep and running costs.

Lovely park, just have to check from the night before the play train for Matches chewing gum on the kids seats. They have rebuilt after the fire earlier this year, worth a visit. The miniature railway next door is still closed they used to run it on a Sunday and kids holidays. When it is operating it does a loop of the park, past the pond, adults can go on the train too just stay balanced.

Excellent place for the kids and train lovers. The guys running the trains are also great and friendly. I can’t believe is run only on tips. A must place to bring the kids. 5*
