What a fantastic little zoo, with lots of unusual animals that I've never seen before. I was given a years wombat sponsorship for Christmas and we went to visit for the first time today, using the complimentary passes which came with the sponsorship. This is the only zoo in the country with wombats. It is a little tricky to find the zoo, even with Satnav, and there are no tourist signs to point you in the right direction until you arrive as the first sign we saw was directly opposite the zoo entrance! There is plenty of free parking. The zoo is easy to get around, lots of loops with enclosures both sides of the paths. Some of the paths are a little uneven so those with mobility issues may need a support stick. There were wheelchair users and push chairs there too and all seemed to get around okay. This is an outdoor day, so prepare to do plenty of walking. There is only one block of toilets at one end of the zoo, near the cafe. The cafe sells lovely light food, snacks and drinks, and look out for the lovely cakes alrhough it'snot cheap! I was impressed with the welfare and conditions of the animal enclosures. There were no animals that looked unhappy and most were sleeping in the sunbeams. The enclosures were clean and I liked that they had long grass in them to give the animals a bit of privacy, if they wanted it. The otter family was playing in their pond, the bears were playing in their pond too, the wallabies were asleep all over the place! Most species were asleep in the sunshine. As for the wombats, well, they are nocturnal, so to see one would be a bonus, and I did see one! It was asleep in the sun, but in full view, which was unexpected. You can peep through a viewing window into their cabin/kennels and see them asleep via infra red light, but you can't see much. Other reviewers advised to walk around the zoo twice and we are glad we did, as we'd missed quite a few species the first time around. The only recommendation I could make to the zoo would be to improve signage. More signs about the animals as there's often only one info sign, and if people are standing in front of it, you can't read it. Also, do the animals have names? Surely the staff would name them? It could also do with actual signposts around the park directing you to the animals. The map in the brochure is not that clear to follow. For children, the highlight would be the little train and the huge play area. There are some picnic benches, but could do with more general seating around the whole park, especially by the bears and tiger areas. It would have been lovely to sit and watch the bears, but the one bench was taken. We had a fab day today, and will definitely return before the end of the year. I visited on a Tuesday in June and it was perfect, I was able to walk around and see all animal enclosures without being in anybody’s way. I would recommend walking around a couple of times as you will see animals you didn’t notice on your first walk around. Highly recommend a visit, it’s brilliant.

We had a great visit here. Nice sunny day too. Animals all looked healthy and enclosures was in good condition they’re doing a good job. The only thing was the train cost money and the map which is fair enough they’re raising money. We just stopped over for a break from a long drive so was quite happy just to explore. We caught the cheater feed also which was great to see, for a bank holiday it wasn’t too busy

We had a brilliant day here. My husband and I took our 3 children (16, 4 & 2) for the dayto celebrate a birthday and even the teenager had fun! Well worth the money as we spent the whole day here. The hot dogs for lunch were especially yummy! The dino train was also great fun and the gentleman who ran it was lovely. Super super day out! 👍

I visited this zoo with my son on October half term and we both thought it was one of the best we'd been to. There were so many amazing animals to see, and we could view them really well. The environments looked lovely and natural for the animals. We got round the whole zoo and then went back to our favourite animals. The cheetahs were lovely to see, they clearly are used to people and followed the train as it went past their enclosure! The white tiger was magnificent, and we enjoyed seeing the gorgeous lynx, the sleepy wombats and walking through the aviary. The play park was also very good and had some unusual climbing frames to try out! We had such a great day and really recommend this zoo park.
