The lochs are part of the grand Union canal network. In it's heyday barge's full of coal would carry up to a 1000tons of coal from the pits in Yorkshire and beyond in just over 7 days. The Hanwell loch's are part of the 200 loch that the boat owner's and family (kid's included) had to navigate to get their goods to market. Kid's who were very young also pulled their weight on the trips (no schools). The days were long winter and summer and the pay subsistence only. How easy is life today kid's of all ages can litter the street's avoid schools and get paid by the state. VOLUNTEER'S KEEP THE CANAL ALIVE for our enjoyment today and into the future. This equivalent to an I phone of yesterday helped the UK ship and trade with the world. Today's visitor's using the canals see Britain as it was and what it has become
Great location to enjoy the marvels of British canal engineering and the peace and tranquility of a canal walk in London..very relaxing.
Took a very enjoyable walk along the canal through the flight of Hanwell locks. Very interesting history knowledge boards and plaques along the way. Highly recommended!
A beautiful and quiet place where you can spend some time and have a picnic. If you are lucky you would see locks in use.
Awesome place for a walk with your family . Not crowded also.. so what are you waiting for ? go check it out 😊
