This used to be a five star place to visit. The reason it is has declined is due to the local council taking over and wasting money unnecessarily. Most likely tax payers money. Fences have been erected in places where they were not needed. Expensive fences at that. Car park attendants where never needed before, so why employ so many when zero is enough? More money wasted. People know how to park and if the carpark is full they know how to turn around. Every time I visit there are more trees missing. Leave the trees alone. Before the council took over, it was a thriving forest with nice walks. Now its "Hillsborough Woods". Please stop wasting tax payers money, its as if they have a budget that they must spend.

Lovely spot for a walk. Easy walk round the lake mostly a flat path. Lots of benches scattered along the path and lovely little jetties for resting. Suitable for all abilities. And prams and wheelchairs. There are longer walks around the wall of the forest with mixed terrain that wouldn’t suit everyone. The scenery is also beautiful with the fort and church steeple in the back drop. Makes for some beautiful photos.
