Iconic windmills situated on a high point of the South Downs, with sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. Jill windmill (the white windmill) has been fully restored to working order, and is open to visitors on select days listed on the website. Even if the windmill isn't open, it's still worth visiting, as it's possible to get a good look from the outside, and the surrounding views are excellent.
Happened to be walking locally and we read this windmill wasn't far away, We arrived just after 2pm on a Sunday and luck was in as it was open, We went inside and had a coffee chatting to a knowledgeable young lad who's a volunteer there, Quick look around upstairs, plenty to see and read about this fantastic operational windmill, Well worth a visit if local and especially on a Sunday afternoon.
Sadly visited on a day when the Windmill wasn’t open (just happened to be close). Looks great and the views across the South Downs from the car park are amazing. There’s also a nice walk to go on from the car park (free). We were told that the Jack windmill is now a private residence and we could see from the path that the cap and the sails had been removed. Will come again on an open day, thanks to the volunteers for keeping this going
Scenic point with convenient car park with plenty of space, maybe around 50 spaces. Great access to the South Downs Way, a popular route for cyclists and pedestrians. Came here around midday on a Saturday and was busy but with few spots available, doesn't look like people tend to stay long. Didn't enter the windmill, so can't comment, but looks free to enter. Mill lane was quite narrow with a few passing places.
