Lovely 1950s atmosphere, very polite and friendly staff. Keep doing what you're doing guys, gals and non-conforming pals!
My first trip to the K&WVR on the 24th May 2026, a very warm day, and I was not disappointed. I started at Ingrow West as it has ample free parking and bought the round trip ticket. The staff were welcoming and polite, the station being immaculately looked after with lots of atmospheric features as it might have been in the 1950s. The trains were also set in this period with compartment red coach stock and on the 1st train at 1020, a splendid old heavy diesel locomotive. With a heavy grinding noise, this dragged us up the valley to Oxenhope via Damens Halt, Oakworth and Haworth, all delightful well restored period stations with two stops in passing loops to let steam trains pass which slowed things down a bit, but I was in no hurry. The red coaches were very 1950s era too, the single compartment ones being somewhat older that the standard British Railways coaches. Everything was clean and well looked after. Station toilets were exceptionally clean and modern with soap and hot water. It was very warm, and at Oxenhope I had a little walk up to the village, with a picnic lunch under the shade in the attractive little riverside park just up from the station. the scenery generally in the Worth valley is quite attractive from the train too, with green hills, field and meadows by the river that the railway follows, interspersed with mills and little houses. I got onto a train for the journey back, the gorgeous red 1940s British Railway locomotive with red coaches again, that took me to Keighley main line station. this was very busy - to be expected with a bank holiday weekend and it was nice to see so many families and train-mad children staring at the engine.. Then back to Ingrow. A grand day out!
Brilliant day on the trains Hopped on and off most of the day Good timetable allowing time to explore each station Very dog friendly Staff very helpful polite and informative
Great station along the KWVR line. The station building itself has an open fire in the booking office, much appreciated if you're visiting on a nippy day. On days where the Elf Express steam services are running, this is a great location to film them coming through. We visited on a purple timetable, which gave us lots of time to go and explore the onsite train story and carriage works. There was lots to learn about in both of them, with friendly knowledgeable staff to help clarify anything or expand on details if you so wish. There were also shops available in both areas, with general railway merchandise, but in the carriage works shop there were also hundreds of very affordable books and magazines for sale.
I live on the line, my daughter is nearly three years old and obsessed with the Chu Chu train, so I recently got my residents pass and I'm on this every weekend with my daughter. Even without the pass it's reasonable, would recommend to anyone with children.
