Really enjoyed visiting Kelvedon Hatch Nuclear Bunker. The self-guided tour with the audio wand is excellent, allowing you to explore at your own pace and take in as much or as little detail as you like. The bunker is far larger than it appears from the outside, with multiple underground levels full of original equipment, control rooms, communications systems and Cold War history. The preserved rooms and huge blast doors give a real sense of what life would have been like if the bunker had ever been used. There are toilets on site, plenty of free parking, and entry is based on an honesty payment system, which is refreshing to see. Be aware that payment is cash only. There's also a shop and café at the end of the tour. What stood out most was the obvious passion and dedication that has gone into preserving this unique piece of history. It's clear a lot of care has been taken to maintain the site and its exhibits. A fascinating and unique attraction that I would highly recommend to anyone interested in history, technology or the Cold War. Well worth a visit.

Picture this… You are wondering through the countryside - walking country lanes and through wooded enclaves, when suddenly you come rambling passed and old time country farm house nestled amongst trees, huge storage containers and military paraphernalia. Intrigued by what I had found I wondered inside what could only be described as the most surreal experience of my rambling experience. Alone - I entered the house and continued to walk down - and down - and further down a slope into the bowels of Earth. Once there I found myself In a nuclear bunker that was designed in case of the Russians dropping a nuke during the Cold War. Now combine this with the sound effects of 1950’s technology, random movies playing in absent cinema rooms and a cast of ghastly and oddly uncanny mannequins - I hope you can imagine just how strange and beguiling this experience was for me. The only thing that could make it anymore unsettling would be a healthy dose of psychedelic mushrooms and a musical score written by the Monty Python sketch show. Needless to say - I loved every moment of it. I got lost for what must’ve have been the last hour of the day before the bunker would close its doors, rushed out into a gift shop and tea rooms to pay for the privilege and continued my walk. If you just so happen to be in the area - I would highly recommend the experience.

Had a great time here this weekend with my history loving son, so much for him to see and do and a great experience for parents too. He had a lovely time trying on some uniform. Really reasonably priced and such a nice bloke running the place. You can opt for an audio wand or go without but I would highly recommend taking one as it truly enhances the experience

Hugely atmospheric and definitely with a visit. We went on a Saturday in November and we only saw a few other people, which made it particularly spooky and easy to follow the trail at our own pace. When you arrive there is no one to greet you, instead you take an audio guide and let yourself around. Payment is taken at the end via an honesty box. The only downside was the signs saying a photography permit (£5?!) was needed before taking any photos, however we just paid it at the end in the honesty box also.

Had the best time here. It's honestly amazing what they have been able to show. It's closest us normal civis will get to seeing what the best the government could offer at a time like that.
