Skate legendary bowls and runs at Scotland's iconic 1977 Kelvingrove Skatepark, a historic venue featuring halfpipes, snake runs, and freestyle areas in Glasgow's Westend.

Kelvingrove Skatepark is a legendary skateboarding destination located in Glasgow's Westend park, designed by Richard S Wrigley and opened in May 1978. This historic venue was constructed in response to the skateboarding boom of the 1970s and features an impressive array of classic skate features including a halfpipe, Cobra bowl, Jaws bowl, snake run, slalom courses, and freestyle area. The park was built utilizing the natural slope of the hillside and incorporates a 1950s-era concrete roller rink for freestyle skating. The skatepark was originally operated with structured sessions (£1.80 for three hours) and employed skate marshals to maintain order. The facility included an onsite burger cabin, first aid room, and office space. Sessions operated with a skill-level badge system (green, blue, red, and black) to determine which areas skaters could access. The park quickly became a focal point for Scotland's skateboarding community, attracting skaters of all levels to learn and progress their skills on its diverse terrain. Kelvingrove remains significant in skateboarding history as a well-designed concrete park that captured the spirit of 1970s skateboard culture. The park's various features cater to different skating styles, from bowl riding and vert skating to slalom racing and freestyle tricks. Suitable for skateboarders of intermediate to advanced ability, Kelvingrove offers an authentic experience of classic skatepark design and continues to attract enthusiasts seeking to skate historic and technically challenging concrete features.

Took a trip to Kelvingrove park today given that the temperature was above 20°C without clouds, I think many had the same idea! Can't blame them when days like this in Scotland exist in single figures 😂. I was seriously impressed. Since I'm currently just viewing the venues Glssgow has to ofter, I did not bring my skates (waiting on safety pads to arrive) but I could tell that this park is well maintained, whether that's by the patrons or the council, I'm unsure, but whomever has done a great job. Not a bit of litter or detritus in sight. No dirt, muck or leaves anywhere. The concrete seemed to be so smooth. Examining the coping on the quarter pipes and spines, they where not too low and the concrete joins seemed well done - no sketchy joins and unlevelled boxes/ledges to give you balance issues. There were a good selection of rails, and of various heights, both inclined and flat, and a good dispersal of angle iron coating many of the 90° edges of the walls and steps. A selection of funboxes and manual boxes, with obligatory coping/qngle iron where in the middle of the park. Finally, at the back end of the park there was a halfpipe-into spine-into -halfpipe, and both of these come into bowl shaped curve at the far end. Behind these, there is also a complete self contained bowl. This separate, kidney-bean shaped bowl seemed to be occupied by youngsters during my hour visit, though this seemed to be by chose. I was impressed at the friendliness of all participants today. Be they skaters, skateboarders, BMXers, children on scooters, the youngsters would always ask if it was safe to go, and I found that even if a boarder was in the middle of a run, he waved the youngster in at the expense of his run. Highly recommend this park, and if you're outside Glasgow, I'd say it justifies the trip outside your area. It's not a small park — one of the bigger parks in within the city limits, and even within the greater Glasgow area, there's only a couple that come close (I'll be looking at them next!) - and if it rains, there's always The Loading Bay indoor park to fall back on, so you won't waste a journey in any event, just bring some contingency pennies for this eventually as that indoor park isn't free. About Me: I was a experienced "street" inline skater back in the day, thats "aggressive inline" for the more informed, even if this term is used less these days...🙄. A regular at the big UK indoor skateparks, from my teens in the late 90s through mid 2000s in my 20s. Fast forward some 20 years and I'm returning to blading. I'll be visiting all the Glasgow venues and giving them a good skate session rundown on my YouTube — but my first impressions are going up as Google reviews!

Went there today with my rollerblading partner. One of the best skate parks i have been in a long time. Great rumps, half pipe and bowl as well as steps and grinding bits; this skate park has something for everyone, no metter your level of expertise. Decently kept and looked after, big enough to guarantee you good fun even during busy times

It's a cool park in a great spot. For skating, I think the ledges and ramps are just a tiny bit too big. They aren't huge, but it's going to be hard for most people to do difficult tricks on. It can also get a little overrun with kids at times, so you have to watch out.

Amazing there for 6 hours. Great for training for championships. Going everyday since Sunday 😀 skaters can be helpful but some are annoying and kind of move you. Skaters help little kids who are just beginning because of the good ones I'm nearly as good as the amazing ones but be careful
