I’ve stayed with Accor hotels all over the world and booked Mercure Rhodes thinking, “What could go wrong?” Unfortunately, this turned out to be the worst hotel experience in years of travelling. The hotel is located in a run-down area with a major construction site next door generating constant noise throughout the day, and late-night noise from the surrounding area of adult themed bars and strip joints made getting proper sleep almost impossible. After 11 nights of disturbed sleep, this became exhausting rather than relaxing. The most frustrating part was that staff showed little interest when concerns were raised and no meaningful solution was offered. Parking was advertised but in reality was not available as expected, which created additional inconvenience. The spa advertised was closed so I paid for a hotel and spa with no spa! Forget relaxing by the pool — the construction noise completely ruins the atmosphere. This hotel fell far below what I expect from the Mercure brand and from my previous experiences with Accor. I would not stay here again and would strongly recommend checking the surrounding area and current building works before booking. The photo shown by the hotel shows an AI image of the construction site next door so a complete fraud!

The towpath is one of my favourite regular walks. So many different routes are available so you can have such a different experience each time you visit. Definitely worth a visit.

A great asset for Belfast. The lungs of the city giving refuge from traffic and pollution for locals and tourists. Very popular with walkers, cyclists and runners providing a shared space for all. Linking Belvoir Forest, Lady Dixon Park and Barnets Demense. Cycle the whole way from Titanic Quarter to Lisburn alongside the River Lagan, traffic free apart for a short section from Ormeau to Stranmillis.
