What a fabulous place. We thought we would be in and out inside and hour ended up rearranging our lunch reservation because we were so engrossed. The people in the village were not only informative but very engaging and at times funny. Well worth a visit.
I didn't know what to expect when I arrived, but it was certainly a good decision to visit. The volunteers working there were exceptionally good at their respective roles. Each was an expert in their subject area and really lived their role. Except for a few wearing glasses they were dressed authentically and knew their trades. The blacksmith, leather worker, the cook all used period correct tools techniques and materials.
Little Woodham Living History Village is an absolutely fantastic place to visit! Walking through the village feels like travelling back in time. The attention to detail is incredible, and the atmosphere is so authentic and immersive. What truly made our visit special were the amazing volunteers and staff. Everyone was so kind, welcoming and passionate about sharing stories about life in the 17th century. They stayed in character, explained traditions, daily routines and history in such an engaging way that both adults and children were fascinated the entire time. The animal skin demonstration and discussions were especially amazing — such a unique and interesting experience! It was fascinating to learn how animal skins were used in everyday life in those times. You can really feel how much love and effort goes into this place. It’s educational, fun and unforgettable — perfect for families and anyone interested in history. Highly recommended and we will definitely visit again!
I came across this hidden gem and Had a lovely time here, the volunteers are all in period dress and very knowledgeable. I love the fact it’s not got proper paths it feels like you are back in time. It only takes about 1.5 - 2 hours to cover it. Very reasonably priced to get in £7 per adult.
Absolutely unique place to visit. Leave behind the crazy 21th century and step inside the 17 th century England, the exact year is 1642 just before the civil war broke out. The village is located in a picturesque little woodland "far away" from the noisy city. Dedicated volunteers run the place and they are very passionate about it. They have a deep knowledge from the era and some of them are very skilled craftsmen. The Volunteers' dedication is very impressive. They deserve a visit to show their love, passion, skills from 1642.
