Fabulous day out trains history and staff are great. Tea break time even had gluten free cakes more the NT has.

Had a lovely morning here with my family. £23 for 2 adults and kids go free, you can also ride as many times as you like which I think is very reasonable. Yes the line is very short and a lot of the comments on here moan about it but its absolutely beautiful and they are looking to extend the line in the future. The staff were all lovely and welcoming and are mostly if not all volunteers that give up their free time to keep this part of our history alive for future generations. People dont realise these heritage railways cost a hell of a lot of money to keep running amd often rely on donations to keep the doors open so rather than moaning about the length of the track maybe just take a step back and think how lucky you are to be able to visit a place like this.

We had the most wonderful day at the railway today! From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming and really went out of their way to make our visit feel special. We also met the two visiting therapy dogs, Henry and Bertie, who completely stole our hearts — such gorgeous, calm and well-tempered boys! 🐾 The whole place has the loveliest atmosphere, the café was delightful, and the train ride itself was absolutely beautiful with stunning views the whole way. The ticket prices are brilliant value too, and we loved that you can hop back on using the same ticket — we did another trip later in the day and it made the experience even better! You can really tell how much care and passion everyone puts into what they do. A huge thank you to all the team for making our day so memorable. We’re already looking forward to coming back again very soon! 💛🚂

An absolutely magical experience on the Lynton & Barnstaple Heritage Railway! Nestled in the heart of Exmoor, this beautifully restored narrow-gauge railway is a true gem. From the moment you arrive, you’re welcomed by passionate volunteers who clearly love what they do and are more than happy to share the fascinating history of the line. The scenery is simply stunning – rolling countryside, peaceful woodland, and classic Exmoor views that make the journey feel like stepping back in time. The locomotives and carriages are immaculately maintained, and the attention to detail is outstanding, giving a real sense of how rail travel once was. It’s a relaxing, nostalgic, and family-friendly experience, perfect for railway enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. The café and shop are a lovely bonus too. Highly recommended – this is a must-visit attraction when exploring Exmoor, and we can’t wait to return! 🚂✨

The staff are so friendly and the best member of staff was of course the train dog who is absolutely gorgeous. My son and I visited for a santa special- being 12 he doesn't believe in santa but we went due to it being an Autism friendly service and time. Thoroughly recommend. Would be great to visit when the train goes further. Wrap up warm and then enjoy a hot chocolate after in the cafe.
