It's hard to believe that this hall has stood for hundreds of years. You can really feel the history as you stroll around. You will love spending an hour here. The man on the desk was lovely and welcoming. You are given a printed guide and there's also lots of information boards dotted around the hall. Amenities: There are clean toilets, a lift for stair free accessibility and a cafe with both an indoor and outdoor seating area in a very pretty garden. There's also a little gift shop selling souvenirs.

Our guests were totally wowed by this venue, the beauty of the venue means you need very little decoration, a few flowers on the tables and you're set. the room does the rest! We then move downstairs for dancing in the undercroft, we hired equipment and brought it in. The caterers we chose were Croft Kitchen, who have done many weddings here and helped the evening run seamlessly. In the lead up to the wedding, the team at adventurers answered all my questions quickly and helped with anything I needed. I really couldn't have asked for more. I only wish we didn't have to have music off at 11.30 but I understood this when booking the central york location there are noise limits up to a certain hour. I could have stayed all night!

My partner and I booked the hall for our wedding day, and upon reflection, we don’t think we could have picked a better venue. Rob and the team were fantastic, everything was clear, all of our questions were always answered, and it helped to make our lives a lot easier. We were able to decorate the venue with lights, chairs, and signage that we had sorted. The hall itself offered so much, and was such a beautiful backdrop to our day. We also hired lawn games which were perfect for the children attending our day. Having a venue with such large private outdoor space in central York is such a fantastic bonus! Would 100% recommend the hall to anyone thinking about getting married, or celebrating.

We had the most wonderful day here! Merchants Hall is such a special, historic place — it’s around 660 years old. You can really feel all that history just walking around, it’s amazing. It was perfect for us — the kids absolutely loved it! There were no restrictions at all, so they could run around and explore freely. They had so much fun colouring, drawing pictures, trying on different hats, and dressing up in medieval and Victorian outfits as kings and queens. It’s just lovely to visit somewhere with so much character and history that’s also so welcoming and relaxed for families. Me and the kids left with big smiles and such happy memories — we’ll definitely be coming back!
