Explore a fully staffed adventure playground with wooden climbing structures, zip line, fire pit, and sandpit within a scenic public park near Birmingham.

Meriden Adventure Playground is a fully staffed outdoor play facility located within Meriden Park in Chelmsley Wood, near Birmingham. The adventure playground encourages free, imaginative play where children aged 0-17 can explore and develop at their own pace. The site features purpose-built wooden structures including platforms and bridges, a large climbing frame, extensive sandpit, zip-wire, various swings, and an open fire pit where children learn fire safety and help prepare food cooked over the flames. Beyond the adventure playground, the wider Meriden Park offers families diverse recreational opportunities including a natural lake, woodland areas, a children's play area, skate park, parkour practice area, tennis courts, and football pitch. The venue hosts regular community events throughout the year and partners with local organizations to support families with disabled children. During school holidays, the playground operates as a playscheme five days a week, often incorporating family fun days where all ages can participate. The facility uses recycled resources and loose parts alongside natural elements to promote creative construction, den building, and unstructured play—activities that foster child development and self-expression in ways often restricted elsewhere. This outdoor adventure playground aims to provide safe, supervised play opportunities for local children while celebrating the natural benefits of outdoor play.

The park was ok for a quick look. A short walk from the Chelmsley Wood Interchange. The remains of the Bogey on the Stick is still there but the 'stick' part is rotting itself and could do with a paint. Noticed a closed cafe an was a skate park inside. Plus a new Kingshurst Brook Community Trail by Doddz has been set up.

Has enormous potential but maintenance seems to be a real problem. A lake that is so silted up that you can practically walk across it. Trees cut down in the woods and legs left strewn everywhere. Off road and illegal motorbikes tearing up the grass and spraying it all over the footpaths - which never gets cleaned up. Such a shame. Parks in the south of the borough do not suffer such neglect. I wonder why?
