Michelham Priory House & Gardens offers families an immersive journey through eight centuries of history, from its founding by Augustinian canons in 1229 through to World War II. Set on a picturesque moated island, the venue features fascinating displays of furniture and artefacts arranged in rooms that reflect different periods, including an authentically restored historic kitchen and a recreated World War Two evacuees' bedroom. Children particularly enjoy the hands-on activities and period costumes available to try on, making history engaging and interactive. Outdoors, visitors can explore seven acres of beautiful grounds and historic buildings, including the impressive Elizabethan Great Barn, a medieval gatehouse, and charming themed gardens—the kitchen garden, physic garden, and medieval herb garden. I recently shot a wedding at Michelham Priory. Such a great venue to have a wedding or just to visit. The gardens are incredibly beautiful and so many different places for photo opportunities. The staff are really friendly and helpful and there's plenty of parking available. Would thoroughly recommend as a wedding venue or as a day out.

Beautiful Priory House. Interactive and attentive personnel with contagious enthousiasm telling the story that went on at Michelham. 10/10, lovely cafe onsite as well for a cuppa to finish your trip off.

Spent about 4 hours of a spring day here and loved it. Very interesting house and contents, clearly explained by the many volunteer guides. Gardens are beautiful and quite extensive. A bit soggy off the paths today but we plan to come in the summer when more flowers are out and trees are in full leaf. Nice cafe with good variety of choices, including a few gluten free options. A recommended visit for all ages.

We went here for the living history festival and to see the house. The festival was really great , all the participants were very friendly and interesting to talk to. Unfortunately my phone ran out of battery half way round so I didn't get to photograph everyone. I'll definitely be back for the next one, with a fully charged phone :-)
