Lovely park, nice cafe for a coffee. And a decent playground if you have kids too. Went to watch the local parkrun and looks fun!
Perched on a high ridge in Catford, Mountsfield Park is one of South East London’s best-kept secrets, offering some of the most commanding views in the borough of Lewisham. Originally the site of a grand Victorian villa owned by the renowned entomologist Henry Tibbats Stainton, the park has evolved into a diverse 28-acre green space that perfectly blends horticultural beauty with wide, open landscapes. The park’s defining feature is its elevation; on a clear day, the northern horizon opens up to reveal a stunning panorama of the London skyline, including the shimmering towers of Canary Wharf and the City. While the grand house is long gone, its legacy lives on in the beautifully maintained ornamental gardens and the mature, exotic trees that dot the slopes. From the vibrant rose beds to the sprawling meadow areas that feel like a slice of the countryside, Mountsfield Park is a place of quiet contrast. It serves as a peaceful retreat for nature lovers and a lively hub for the local community, hosting the famous People’s Day festival and providing a hilltop sanctuary for all who visit. Tips for your visit: • The Skyline View: For the best photo opportunities, head to the highest point of the park near the western boundary—it’s a prime spot for watching the sun set over the city. • The Community Garden: Visit the local community garden within the park to see how residents are growing fresh produce and promoting urban biodiversity. • People's Day: If you are visiting in July, check the dates for "Lewisham People’s Day," the borough's longest-running free festival, which transforms the park into a whirlwind of music and art. • A Natural Workout: The park’s sloping terrain makes it a favorite for local runners and fitness enthusiasts looking for a "hill day" with a view. Mountsfield Park is an uplifting and historic green space that combines local community warmth with the grand scale of London’s landscape. 🌳🏙️🌹
What a treat. I had heard about this park but had never actually been there. Until that day...well, I tell you. What a vibe. It is such a nice park. Seeing the kids playing , families doing their own thang, people chillin. Everyone together but not together. The children playing and laughing. The cafe caffing, the loos looing. It was so nice here. I thoroughly enjoyed myself here and look forward to coming again soon. This park is a real park...
Went for a walk and coffee and cake with the family at this park. It’s a very big and lovely park. We prefer to visit during the quieter times. This park as an outdoor gym, play ground, cafe and public toilets. There is a community garden too but doesn’t look maintained at all apart from that this is an amazing park for the whole family.
I'm going to review the features and services within this park and then give my overall review. Starting with: Space: This park is massive. There's so much space everywhere even after all the features within it which is really nice. There are a lot of benches and sitting areas throughout the park for those looking to just relax and enjoy the weather. Features: There are a so many features within the park such as: Gym area Play area for kids Ice cream truck stop Basketball court x2 Public Garden / Orchid Coffee Shop w/ Halal hot dogs Tennis court x 2 Foot ball area x2 Table tennis table Bike parking It's worth noting that the listed features were all well kept and in good condition. Services: The ice cream truck and the coffee shop are some of the key services available within this park. You can get an ice cream for 99p which is a really nice price especially for those visiting with their family. Hygiene: The whole park was really clean, which is an impressive feat considering its size. There's a handful of bins spread out throughout the park incase you have some litter you need to dispose off. Summary: Overall, this park is really good and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking to visit or walk through like I did.
