First visit with my granddaughter. She's only a toddler but enjoyed the toys available. Coffee shop made a very good flat white. Very little food for children although loads of flavoured water. The grounds surrounding the museum were well kept. Excellent play equipment in the smallish park. 10/10 for the baby changing cubicle. Staff in the museum were very helpful.

Such a little gem of a museum! Highly recommend. I still can't believe there were elephants and hippos roaming around Chelmsford. 😂 But it's true! They have an incredible collection of artefacts and fossils, some dating back to the ice age. Absolutely brilliant and will definitely go back sans 4 year old next time for a slower paced look/read. Staff are also lovely and super helpful. Also a great exhibition about a local children's author with interactive things for this kids. Then you can pop to the double play park afterwards while grabbing a coffee in the cafe. Perfect little afternoon.

We had a really lovely first visit here. It was £4 for an adult entry and children were free. There were lots of exhibits that were made with children in mind with lots of interactive and multi sensory elements. Having a child with SEN - it was not overwhelming for him and there are items you can borrow during your trip to help if your child needs extra sensory support. My children's favourite exhibition is the current one in collaboration with Kes Gray - my children love a lot of his books and liked interacting with them in a new and fun way.

It's a very good spot to visit with kids, especially if you want to learn about British history as well. There are sections of the natural museum, Marconi inventions, the Essex army regiment, and a drawing and history area of prehistoric, Anglo-Saxon, Roman, and modern sections. Half a day is enough. There is a park in front for a picnic and a play area at the back for children. There is a cafe on site.

Great place to visit. Super friendly staff. It is a tad small but it’s got lovely things to see. It was nice and quiet when we visited. Definitely would recommend getting there early to get a car spot in the car park. There is a toilet at the car park and in the museum
