Wandered into this place today. Browsed the little shop which was sweet although some prices were missing from items and as a neurodivergent person I don't like to have to ask. Just a tip as you're potentially missing sales by doing this. I also looked at the discounted books, which was also nice enough. Then I wandered into a room not knowing it was part of the museum. An assertive man came after me and accusingly stated 'Can I help you?' in the most opposite tone of the questions meaning, I was taken aback so smiled and said 'Just wandering, thank you!' he continued to be quite blunt with his tone 'You have to buy a ticket to be in here' - firstly, this was clearly an accident on my behalf, secondly please consider your tone with people who are gentle and kind with you. I felt accused. The women in there seemed kinder when I explained I could not see a sign, the man said 'Well there are signs, here and there' (These signs he pointed to were very small in a tiny font and were not immediately obvious, I'll hazard a guess this happens regularly, although I'm sure a defensive person will respond to say it doesn't) I then saw the price was £12.50 and after his attitude didn't like the idea of paying that much. Please simply consider putting a sign on a stand in front of the room that is not obviously something you should pay for. And please reconsider the obtuse man there. When I initially walked in he was complaining to high heavens about all sorts at the till and it wasn't an inviting atmosphere. After our interaction he stood glaring at me for my last seconds in the shop. I felt judged and uncomfortable, so I left. I've worked in many customer facing roles in my life and being kind is just part of the personality needed for it. If you are not kind please don't work or volunteer in these roles. You can negatively impact someone's whole day.

Really interesting little museum, with lots of local history and artifacts. A beautifully kept garden with lots of knowledgeable volunteers about to give more information. Plenty to amuse the kids, and a nice tea rooms. Pay once, and return for free during following 12months!

This is a fantastic museum with lots local history. Your entrance fee will last for the year so you’ll be able to return free of charge if you return. Definitely check it out in your visiting. Coffee and cake 🧁 were a good price certainly recommend.

I took my 4 year old here on a wet weather day and we both loved it. There are so many fun and interesting interactive displays! Upstairs each room has topical toys, puzzles, books and crafts which are well presented and looked after. You can take a magnify glass or a torch from the front and walk round and do the childrens trail to add some more structure if you like. We loved the kitchen and school room. It was great to be in a place I didn't need to keep reminding him 'not to touch that'. There's a lovely tea room and big garden too. Highly recommended!

Fantastic local museum in an historic building. Recently refurbished and conserved in an innovative, sympathetic way that makes the building one of the main exhibits. Lots of fascinating objects, with stories linking them with the previous owners of the house and local community. Displays are wonderfully presented so your senses are not too overwhelmed, with some really innovative interpretations and interactives. Amazing garden and tea room at the back. Plenty for children. Excellent gift and book shop at the entrance/exit.
