National Emergency Services Museum

Sheffield, United Kingdom•4.7(1.3k)•Heritage Site, Museum

Explore Britain's emergency services history across three floors of interactive exhibitions, historic vehicles and hands-on family activities in a Victorian police, fire and ambulance station.

The National Emergency Services Museum is housed in England's first purpose-built combined Police, Fire and Ambulance Station, a Victorian building where emergency service personnel once lived and worked. Visitors step inside to discover three floors packed with ten exhibitions, around 30 iconic vehicles, interactive displays and the incredible stories of the people behind the uniform. Families can come face-to-face with a 45-foot RNLI lifeboat, sit inside historic vehicles, try on uniforms, and push buttons to engage with displays. Exhibitions cover Victorian Police Cells, early ambulances, the role of HM Coastguard, and life as a firefighter during the Sheffield Blitz. The museum offers something for every age group, from little heroes play days to school holiday activities throughout the year. The venue is pushchair-friendly and features an on-site Café where visitors can relax with refreshments. The museum opens Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00-16:00, with online booking recommended. Visitors can upgrade their entry ticket to a year ticket at no extra cost, allowing unlimited visits for 12 months.

Very fun and interactive. Spent about 1.5 hours looking round all the different exhibits. Each ticket lasts for a year and there is a lovely cafe on site. Not too busy for a Saturday lunchtime either

Lovely little interactive museum! 👮 We took our 20 month old daughter, she enjoyed sitting in the ambulance & pressing all the buttons in the fire engine 🚒 🚑 We’ll be back for the Little Heroes Play Days soon!

This is a great museum with lots of exhibits showing the history of the emergency services. Lots of vehicles, some of which you can go inside are a great addition to the uniforms and other objects. Great for families and adults who have an interest in the subject.
