This place is not to be missed! It is a piece of living history and our guide (Dom) was excellent and we learnt so much from the tour and seeing the forge all working and the tool both being used and made in this place was incredibly special. The family history here is rich and what's more it is all located in the most beautiful, secret garden esque location! You need to book to secure your place on the hourly tours and we are national trust members, meaning our visit was FREE. But it would be worth the day ticket for non members and was both fascinating and beautiful throughout. We attended with our parents (who loved it also) and our children, aged 8 and 10. They were in awe of everything throughout and this would be the first tour ever that has captured their attention for the duration. All the staff we interacted with were helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant, with some volunteers even sharing family ties to the original owners. You can even see traditional blacksmithing when on site and buy pieces made in the forge, to help with the upkeep of the site. We would like to thank Nikki at the front desk and to Dom for the excellent and informative tour. We had the best day out and will be sure to book in again to see this beautiful place in the different seasons. A true beauty of English heritage and history, and should be preserved for as long as possible.

Great little find. If you like history, this is the place for you. The excellent tour guide brought history back to life in the old forge. Staff were amazing. Toilets on site. Nice place to have a picnic - or there's a tea room and pub opposite. There's also a Quaker burial site.

Wow talk about hidden gem. This is a fascinating place. It deals with family history, Economics, the industrial revolution, social culture and has Huge machinery that is operated I front of your very eyes. The grounds are brilliant and tidy and there's a church graveyard well kept at the back. The car parking in the area is t brilliant but there is some. Not for camper vans etc to park easily. Pub within walking distance ie over the road! Great attraction. I loved it and will visit again I hope.

What an absolute gem of a place. We called in as a stop over on our way to a weekend away in Devon. First word of warning, the entrance to the Car Park is very narrow, with stone walls either side (you go through an archway) so if you have a Campervan, you won't fit. There is no tea shop here but literally across the road is a pub and village shop/cafe. For me, the main interest here is the story behind the place which you don't get (imo) unless you book a tour. They run hourly and I would advise booking. Ours was taken by Helen who was great. Just about the right level of knowledge - please remember, they are volunteers who haven't in all probability worked in the industry, so won't no the answer to the technical questions. The gardens are a beautiful spot for a picnic and there is a lovely walk along the riverbank close by.

Went here as it was close to where we were . Not our usual National Trust visit but what a surprise . Loved the village location ,it had a lovely cosy feel . The guided tour was enjoyable . We usually hate the formal enforced tours but this one we loved . Why go and see stately homes all the time when you can see this countrys history . The old machines in this forge work and we got to see them. Absolutely stunning example of our long gone working man . The village with its river walks and church oh my days beautiful.
