Beautiful peaceful spot with wide views over the Blackmore Vale and lovely chalk downland scenery. Fontmell Down has that classic old English countryside feeling — open, quiet, natural, and very calming. It reminded me a little of Win Green, with similar sweeping views and open slopes. We only stopped briefly for a few photos and videos, but it was definitely worth it. The landscape is gorgeous, with wildflowers, birds, butterflies and plenty of open space to walk. Just be prepared for uneven ground, grazing animals, and a very authentic countryside amount of cow dung! Still a lovely place for a short walk, fresh air, and beautiful views.

Small free car park off the road. Spectacular views over the downs. Several walks suggested on the map board, I went off to the right. Air full of the scent of hawthorn and my ears ringing with the sound of skylarks everywhere I went. Very relaxing. Lots of wildflowers and insects too.

I went because I was looking for dark skies mid April, which it's good for, the good view is down the hill, but the milky-way arch ( summer) you're looking up the hill. The daytime view is beautiful though, probably good for dog walkers.

Great scenic National Trust car park. I did the circular walk in early December at sunset and I loved it. Pretty bracing though! Took me approximately one hour. The route was damp and slippery so had to watch my footing. All in all a worthwhile hour spent blowing the cobwebs away. Recommended.

Large area of unspoilt countryside, where open chalk downland and mixed woodland combine to create a very attractive setting. Walking around the hilltop trail yields sweeping views for miles around. There's a decent sized roadside parking area. No facilities but the nearby airfield has a café if you're after refreshments. On the Sunday morning I visited, there were some fantastic classic aeroplanes flying overhead, adding interest to an already lovely walk. There are paths down into the valley if you want a more challenging walk with elevation changes, or an easier, level route around the hilltop if you just want to enjoy the views.
