Volunteers here were really knowledgeable. The kids trail is ace! It didn't need the featured poker on thing (but my kids are outdoorsy anyway). House is lovely, gardens pretty and lots to explore. Easily have a day here. Not all parts are dog friendly as with most national trusts.

This is yet another superb National trust property. The gardens are a pleasure to walk around, and the tour was very informative and well worth the visit. Rooms were authentic with many artefacts, and the cafe was huge with a great selection of food. Volunteers and staff were super helpful and friendly. Thank you

During a long journey north, we were looking for a break and spotted Sizergh. It was prefect for a stop. The cafe was great as usual for the NT. The house was really interesting, beautifully furnished and decorated throughout. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful as we walked around. The gardens were lovely too. You can wander around the rock paths and up to the greenhouse, with the most gorgeous smalls and plants. Finally, a walk around the lake gives splendid views of the house, which then takes you to the Soil Exhibition. Do not be put off. It's a real eye opener on what lies beneath your feet. A lovely visit. Thank you.

Crowded on a bank holiday but no wait to get in. Plenty of parking but you may have to be patient to find a bay at peak times. The cafe always had a queue but there's also an outdoor van for coffee and ice-cream that seemed to have a shorter queue. Good coffee! Both the house and garden are destinations individually or combined and probably neither should be missed. There's an informative and light hearted video on the history of the house and family that was actually entertaining to watch. This house is full of interesting treasures.

We had a fabulous day. The staff were very friendly and helpful - excellent communication skills with my elderly, hearing impaired mother in law. We borrowed their two trampers which enabled my disabled in-laws to access almost the whole grounds (excluding the inside of the castle, as it's an ancient building, not suitable for wheelchair users, which we already knew beforehand). We had cheese scones/sausage roll and drinks in the cafe- all delicious! The meals looked lovely but we'd had a big breakfast! We loved the fabulous gardens, which had so much to see in spring. We've been in summer before, and it's beautiful then too. Then, we went right up to the top viewing area, past the farm, through bluebell woods, to the spectacular views of the Lakeland hills. It was so lovely to be able to see England's highest peak, when disabled. We had great weather, which certainly helped to make for a great day out. It probably wouldn't be so much fun in pouring rain and low cloud, unless you could look around the castle (which we've done with younger family, and I'd also recommend highly).
