I walk through this park all the time, when I was 16 I was nearly mugged here, when I was 18 I watched a rapper crash his quad here, when I was 19 I heard about people being assaulted in the bushes, when I was 20 I had to lift up my dog because another dog was off its lead and charged up to my not so friendly dog, when I was 25 some contractors dug a crater in the beautiful field for about a year but thats back to normal. There's nothing to buy here, no toilets, theres a tennis court and a couple kids things but its nothing special. Its alright I guess but could be better.

Openshaw Park is a decent local green space that serves its purpose for the community, but it’s not without its ups and downs. If you’re nearby and want somewhere quick to get some fresh air, it does the job — just don’t expect anything overly polished or scenic. The park itself has a fair amount of open space, which is ideal for walking, kicking a ball around, or letting kids burn off some energy. There’s a play area that families will find useful, and on a good day, it can feel quite lively with locals making the most of it. It’s the kind of place that works well for convenience rather than destination. That said, maintenance can be a bit inconsistent. Some areas are kept reasonably tidy, while others can feel a little neglected depending on when you visit. Grass can be uneven, and you may come across litter here and there, which takes away from the overall experience. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it does stop the park from feeling properly looked after. Safety-wise, it’s generally fine during the day when there are people around, but like many local parks, it’s not somewhere you’d necessarily want to hang around late at night. There’s a typical urban park vibe — nothing overly concerning, but you stay aware of your surroundings. One positive is its accessibility. It’s easy to get to, and for people living in Openshaw or nearby areas, it’s a convenient outdoor space without needing to travel far. That’s where it really holds its value. Overall, Openshaw Park is functional and useful for the local area, but it could benefit from better upkeep and a bit more attention. It’s not a standout park in Manchester, but for a quick walk or some outdoor time, it does the job.

BIG DROP AROUND BASKETBALL VERY DANGOUS FOR KIDS. AS CANT BE SEEN TILL TO LATE. This has had so many accidents instead of investing in a fence around it invest in lights,, whys that ? Kids fighting at night? Used to be a good place for children to come to. Now isn't much here as been removed or damaged. Lights still work thou.
