What a beautiful place to visit. Amazing grounds go on forever! Very dog friendly! We visited yesterday, weather was on the warm side but we still managed to find plenty of shade and water bowls, and a dog friendly ice cream! Very friendly knowledgeable English Heritage staff across the site. I loved everything here. I think the site shop would definitely benefit from more merchandise with images of Queen Victoria on them. It should be the very basic of images on a magnet for the great Queen Victoria at her final home. I was very dissapointed not to have been able to purchase a magnet with her image on site at all. As a Historic Royal fan I have visited sites across the land, e.g Hever (I know its not English heritage) but what you cant buy there with Ann Boleyn image on is not worth looking at! Even Peterborough Cathederal have magnets with Queen Katherine of Aragon on them.. I think English Heritage is missing a massive sales opportunity for Queen Victoria nerds (like myself) who would love the opportunity to purchase more merchandise and not just books but magnets, bags, mugs, t- shirts...little princess outfits (to go with the boys swords and armour!) anything, just a thought.

Fabulous so interesting the grounds are expansive there is a little beach with has a cafe the Swiss cottage and the adjoining museum. If you cannot walk far or up hill as in my case they run a shuttle bus between the house swiss cottage and the beach. Lovely staff and very knowledgeable.

Visited 25th March 2026 before high season so the upstairs floors were not open. However, still plenty to see from statues of the Goddess of Victory, Nike, to original paintings of Queen Victoria and her family. Access to rooms such as the drawing room, Dunbar room and dining room is very good with helpful English Heritage staff in hand for any facts. Then you have the beautiful, well kept gardens. If you're ready for a walk, then visit the Swiss Cottage in the grounds followed by a further walk to Victoria's private beach. Overall, Osborne is well worth the visit, with tea rooms and a gift shop too.

VISIT DATE: WED 30/07/2025 VISIT TIME: 12:00 - 18:00 VISIT TYPE: Family Visited on Wednesday 30 July with my 6-year old daughter, my mother, my aunt and my grandmother. Osborne is an incredible place to visit and definitely requires a full day to explore as the site is so large. There is a lot of walking involved, but less mobile visitors, or those who tire easily can take advantage of the mini-bus which goes from place to place, or sit and enjoy the views from the cafe on the terrace. The house itself contains a fine collection of art and sculptures, giving a good insight into the tastes of Victoria and Albert, as well as the fashions of the day, with fine views from the windows of the formal gardens and grounds. On the outside, there are plenty of lovely areas to walk and it is always nice to turn and look back to the house, which looks lovely from all angles. Within the grounds you will find Swiss Cottage, the best play house ever built for children, with its fully functional kitchen and gardens. Next to this is a museum built to house the collection of items gifted or collected by the royal children and you’ll also find the play area tucked behind. Carry on towards the sea and you can enjoy time on the estate’s private beach and yes, if you’ve brought your swim wear, you can swim! Sadly, no bathing cabinet for us members of the proletariat, but it’s still quite nice to be able to say you’ve swum off Queen Victoria’s private beach, which we did! This is a truly remarkable place to visit, well worth the entry fee and expertly managed by English Heritage. It is worth getting membership if you’re staying on the Isle as there are a few EH sites nearby. As we visited during the summer holidays we were lucky enough to catch a traditional Punch & Judy show at the beach and take part in games on the lawn. EH often do special events during school holidays so check their website for details.
