Located just off Junction 13 of the M1 in County Armagh, Peatlands Park is a uniquely wild, 680-acre National Nature Reserve. Preserving a landscape that has been forming for over 10,000 years, this park offers an immersive look into a pristine and fragile ecosystem, seamlessly combining ecological conservation with quiet outdoor recreation. The park features highly accessible infrastructure designed for an educational and relaxing day out. Walking Trails: Over 16km of colour-coded pathways looping through ancient oak woodlands, traditional apple orchards, and open bogs. The Bog Garden: A specialized boardwalk zone allowing visitors to safely observe unique, insect-eating sundews, bog rosemary, and vibrant dragonflies. Family & Transport: A modern children's play area, a visitor center, and a narrow-gauge railway (check seasonal operation). Conveniences: Comprehensive toilet blocks and a massive, free-to-use car park accommodating up to 200 vehicles. Peatlands Park is highly recommended for nature photographers and families seeking "secret schooling." For the most scenic experience, follow the Woodland Walk to spot local wildlife like red squirrels and cuckoos. Ensure you wear sturdy, waterproof footwear, as the woodchip and gravel trails can get muddy after typical Northern Irish rainfall.

Great trails, different options of distance.

Worth the stop to stretch the legs on a drive. Love the ducks here. On a dry day this is the place for a picnic.

A favourite place for a walk all seasons - anything from 20 minutes to over an hour. All paths in good condition and flat. Many fully paved accessible paths for pushchairs, wheelchairs etc. Boardwalks and forest trails also on site.

Lovely walks around the park with the longest being 5 miles. Allegedly it should take 1.5 hrs to do the 5 miles. Lies, pure lies lol! There’s plenty of parking and toilets at the visitors centre which were open even though the visitors centre was closed on Easter Sunday. Great play park for the kids too. Walks are not really suitable for the less abled bodied due to a mix of track - tarmac, boardwalk, stony uneven parts and wood chipping. There’s a train that takes you around the park that you need tickets for - unsure of the price. Some of the signage needs refreshed and cleaned - hard to read some signage and the red markers aren’t so red now. There’s a few seats along the earlier parts of the walks but few later on when you probably need it. Also, it would be helpful if there was a some indication on the long route of how far you’ve got to go as a motivator. The car park looks like it has security cameras up which is really helpful.
