Explore exquisite miniature dioramas depicting English rural life in the 1920s-1930s, featuring intricate model railways, villages and landscapes.

Pendon Museum offers visitors a unique journey through time via extraordinary miniature dioramas that capture the essence of English countryside life during the 1920s and 1930s. The museum features three main attractions: The Vale Scene, an ambitious model of the Vale of White Horse countryside; the Madder Valley Railway, a pioneering and famous layout that operates on select days throughout the year; and the Dartmoor Scene, depicting an imaginary Great Western branch line winding through South Devon and Cornwall. The museum is particularly appealing to families with children aged 3 and above, offering both visual exploration and interactive experiences. Visitors can enjoy free drop-in junior model-making sessions for children aged 6-14 on Wednesdays during school holidays, providing hands-on creative opportunities inspired by the museum's collections. Virtual tours are also available for those who wish to explore from home. Pendon Museum operates seasonally (February through November) with limited opening hours, typically 11am-4pm on weekends and bank holidays, plus select weekday openings. The museum is an accredited heritage attraction that successfully recaptures and explains a bygone era through meticulous craftsmanship and attention to historical detail, making it an educational and engaging destination for families interested in history, model-making, and heritage.

Great place to bring the kids for a few hours. Adults would also enjoy visiting this place. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Well worth the visit. A fictional idealised layout based on real buildings and setting. Three rooms of models, the Vale being the biggest. Bigger than the website and photos make it appear. Kids loved it. Lots of volunteers happy to go into detail. Trains being run and explained as you watch. Cafe is a bit basic and double parking in the car park not organised well. But otherwise great.

Ive lived in Oxfordshire for 15 years and never come across this place. Its really rather good. Especially good for small or big children who like model trains. Run by an army of volunteers who do an excellent job. The model building workshop that they ran today was excellent, some very kind gentlemen spent about 30 minutes with my children helping them build a model scene.

What absolutely fascinating place, much bigger than imagined, you can see the pure love and skills of the staff that lovingly look after the place and help each visitor understand what the museum is all about. Highly recommended. Always find something new to look at when we visit. Reasonable entrance fee too

Quite a small place but admission charge is very reasonable. It's unbelievable to look at the tiny buildings and bridges etc. As they are so realistic. I recommend taking a photo and then enlarging it to see all the detail. The detail is absolutely unbelievable. Very much worth a trip.
