Explore Newcastle's restored urban green spaces, featuring 33 public parks and diverse wildlife habitats perfect for families seeking outdoor adventures.

Urban Green Newcastle was a pioneering charitable trust responsible for managing and improving 33 of Newcastle's public parks, 61 allotment sites, and 57 park buildings. Operating from April 2019 to February 2025, the organization transformed how public green spaces were cared for and managed across the city, reversing decades of decline in park maintenance and investment. The initiative engaged with hundreds of volunteers and community partners to create vibrant outdoor spaces suitable for families of all ages. Urban Green Newcastle championed biodiversity through programs like Beelines North East and Newcastle's Nature Networks, ensuring the city's diverse wildlife population continued to flourish. The parks offer opportunities for outdoor recreation, community engagement, and connection with nature. In addition to park management, the organization created pathways into employment and promoted wellbeing through various activities and initiatives. With outdoor spaces that are free to access and pushchair-friendly, these parks provide ideal destinations for family outings. The legacy of Urban Green Newcastle's work continues through Newcastle City Council's management of these cherished green spaces.

We went to the food market on Armstrong bridge before pets corner (there every 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month). This was decent but quite pricey for lunch and fresh doughnuts. Pets corner was ok...well kept but not very many animals, felt like quite a few areas were empty though there were signs stating ducks had to be quarantined for a while.

A lovely little find in Jesmond Dene in Newcastle. The attraction features animals like pigs, sheep, goats, and birds, and is free to enter. Its really well maintained and all of the animals look well. There is a cafe (very expensive) next to it and a small play park with picnic benches and space for the kids to runaround. If the Ice cream van is there, don't miss the chance....they are fabulous!!

Lovely to stumble upon here whilst visiting the waterfalls of Jesmond Dene. The animals and birds have beautiful enclosures and are kept very clean. Lively benches to sit around and view the inhabitants. The only reason dropped a star though it was well signposted think distance should be included, as we were about to give up when we just spotted it. There is a little cafe/meeting area with toilets nearby too.

Lovely place! We went there with our family Easter Sun. Animals look happy, well looked after. Their carers looked happy too 😆 enjoying being with them. Tea coffee refreshments were available.
