The station itself is really nice and worth seeing. It’s also home to the famous Harry Potter Platform 9¾, which is great to see if you’re a fan. That said, in my opinion, waiting in line to take the classic photo with the trolley isn’t worth it, the queue is incredibly long.
It was brilliant! We arrived a little before 9 am on a Wednesday and the line was short, 8 people there. The photo staff were wonderful, patiently working with everyone to have a great experience. You can take your own photos (free) and can use all their props, wand and scarfs without any obligation to buy their photos. We took a group picture of 3 of us and 3 individually. The Harry Potter store is next to platform 9 3/4s and you go there to view your photos with no pressure to buy. Their packages are reasonable if your own photos aren't up to snuff. Definitely a bucket list items for Potter fans!
For any Harry Potter hardcore fan it’s a must to go to platform 9 3/4 in king’s cross but the queue for the picture is very long. Can take a 1hr wait Its the exact location of the story, the Harry Potter studios have the same prop so you save some time there. There’s a nice store next to it but again, the Harry Potter studios have gift shop next to it.
I went on a weekday morning in February, around 10am. I probably waited 20-30 minutes. They carefully pose and take photos of each group individually. They also lend you a scarf and wand. If you like the photos, you can purchase them at the shop next door. I also went to the Harry Potter Studios afterward, but some items were cheaper here, and some were only sold here, so I recommend buying anything you want on the spot.
King’s Cross Station is located just opposite St Pancras International Station, making it very easy to find. As soon as you enter King’s Cross, look to your right side and you will see stairs going down towards the Underground station. Near this area, you will find the famous Platform 9¾, a must-visit spot for Harry Potter fans. Another exciting highlight nearby is the St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, which is also visible from this area. This hotel is well known among Harry Potter fans as it appeared in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, where the flying car scene was filmed. Platform 9¾ can get very busy, especially during peak tourist hours, but it is absolutely worth visiting if you are a Potterhead. There is a professional photo setup where friendly staff members help visitors take pictures. They even provide a Gryffindor scarf and guide you with the correct pose while pushing the trolley into the wall. You are allowed to take photos using your own mobile phone, which is great. If you want a professionally clicked photo, you can also purchase it from the Harry Potter shop right next to the platform. The store is filled with a wide range of Harry Potter merchandise, including scarves, wands, souvenirs, and gifts, making it a perfect place to shop for fans. Overall, Platform 9¾ at King’s Cross is a magical experience and a must-visit attraction in London, especially for Harry Potter lovers. Try to visit early in the morning or on weekdays to avoid long queues.
