Pooley Country Park

Polesworth, United Kingdom•4.3(586)•Country Park, Nature Reserve, Playground

Explore 62.5 hectares of woodland, historic mining heritage, and a brilliant play area alongside pools and the Coventry Canal.

Pooley Country Park offers families a unique blend of outdoor recreation and industrial heritage across 62.5 hectares of designated parkland. One-third of the site is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, featuring several pools created by mining subsidence, diverse woodland habitats, and access to the scenic Coventry Canal. Visitors can walk historic footpaths used by miners since 1846, providing a tangible connection to the area's rich colliery past. The park's brilliant play area, opened in 2006, provides excellent facilities for children of all ages. The on-site Visitor Centre showcases memorabilia from former Pooley and North Warwickshire miners, offering educational insights into the site's significant mining history. The park is particularly notable as home to the Pooley Hall Colliery, which later became the North Warwickshire Colliery in 1951—famous for being the first mine to generate its own electricity and the first to have pit head baths. Suitable for families with children and dog walkers, Pooley Country Park combines outdoor activities including cycling, orienteering, and nature walks with refreshments available at the Pit Stop Coffee Shop. The park features accessible paths, benches for rest, parking facilities, and daily toilets (9am-4pm). Visitors can immerse themselves in Warwickshire's natural landscape while learning about the area's industrial heritage, making it an educational and entertaining destination for all ages.

Parking is right by the cafe, children’s play area and toilets. Lovely walk down to the canal and around the country park

Placed between the M42, Coventry canel and the West coast mainline so there will be a constant hum of traffic. This is my first visit in 15 years as the kids loved coming here to play in the semi woodland playground. This is lovely area with a circular walk around the spoil hill you can extend your walking by exploring the Country canel tow path in either direction. The spoil hill has good views and a golden monument of a leaf on top.

Despite the gentle hum of the traffic in the background, this is a good place to come for a walk. We visited as part of our exploring new places for walks during Twixmas. The car park charges for use but is card or app payment only (although as mentioned by a previous reviewer, the machine is still out of order 30.12.25) If you aren't a walker, there are bike trails too.

Great cafe, short walk to the burnt sunlight monument. Paths could do with a bit of attention as muddy and not well signposted. Car park is pay and display and has alot of potholes

A gorgeous place, where nature is largely left to its own devices. There's lots of people, dog walkers and cyclists all seem to manage not to trip over each other or spoil the environment. Shame about the scumbags who drop the litter.
