Portland Museum: a collection of items found at sea that tell the story of the people who lived on the island. There are also the ruins of Rufus Castle and St. Andrew’s Church on the cliff, the Portland Bill Lighthouse, and plenty of other interesting sights along the way.
An absolutely beautiful thatched cottage from the outside but be mindful of the opening times. The collection is eclectic and it's not got much room inside. The garden is great as they have plenty of seats and shelter from the sun. It was interesting to see the letters between Dr Marie Stopes and Thomas Hardy.
Fabulous museum with lots of local super interesting artifacts and information covering ship wrecks, fossils, quarries and loads more. The setting is awsome being in some thatched cottages which themselves are fascinating, lovely rear garden too. Free entrance for locals, small entrance fee otherwise. On street parking is free and plentiful.
Informative museum with a vast quantity of information on the local area. The museum staff were very knowledgeable and provided some great recommendations. The cost of entry is about the same as a cup of coffee but you learn more.
They say great things come in small packages and that's true of this lovely, fascinating museum and its helpful staff. There's a lovely walled garden if you want to take your picnic, and lots of events for kids and adults. Check opening times before you visit
