The Bear and the Fox

A castle-themed destination playground in central Edinburgh with turret towers, rampart panels, and views of Edinburgh Castle itself.

This newly opened playground earns destination status with its castle theme perfectly complementing the Edinburgh Castle backdrop. Two castle-themed multi-play units feature turret towers with curved tunnel slides and rampart-style panels, while a ticket office window encourages imaginative role-play. The larger castle structure serves juniors; a smaller three-tower version suits toddlers. Beyond the castles, equipment includes climbing walls and nets, musical instruments, basket and toddler swings, parent-baby swings, trampolines, and spinning equipment. The central West Princes Street Gardens location puts shops, cafes, and public facilities within easy reach. A thoughtfully designed space worthy of a trip across town.

They’ve finally updated this playground ideally placed in front of the dramatic castle and next to Princes St. I’ve seen so many families from all over the world using it and it’s needed a revamp for quite some time. Now there’s a play area for little ones and a three level tower for big ones. It’s more disabled friendly with ground level merry go round you can take a wheelchair or pram onto. There’s sound makers. Ground level trampoline. Stepping stones. There’s a make believe train station ticket office my 6yo was keen to sell me tickets for the next train to London. We’ll return another day to spend more time exploring.

This playground was right by the place where we stayed (premier inn). Awesome playground with a great view of the castle.
