Queens Park

Rochdale, United Kingdom•4.6(1.7k)•City Park, Playground

Explore one of Britain's first municipal parks with a dedicated children's play area designed for ages 3-8, plus 5-a-side football pitches.

Queens Park is a historic municipal park established in 1846 on Rochdale Road in Harpurhey, Manchester. Originally built around Hendham Hall (home of the Houghton family until its demolition in 1884), the park has been a cherished community space for nearly two centuries. The park features a well-maintained children's play area specifically designed for young children aged 3 to 8 years old, making it ideal for families with toddlers and early primary school-aged children. Beyond the play facilities, Queens Park also offers 5-a-side football pitches for those interested in more active recreation. Open from dawn to dusk year-round, the park provides free outdoor access for families seeking affordable leisure activities. The site is accessible via public transport through TfGM services. Please note that dogs are not permitted in the children's play area. Visitors can report any maintenance issues through Manchester City Council's dedicated reporting system.

Beautiful park, with lake having ducks and swans. Playground, tennis courts, cafe and toilets. Good cakes but remember to take cash. Oh and the car park across the road is free!

What a lovely park, with winding paths good for walking. It has a pretty lake, plenty of bench and green grass. There's a cafe and plenty of playground equipment. Great place for families, and being alone too!

Queens park is my Grandsons favourite park. It has The best cafe ( dog friendly) selling everything from breakfasts to ice creams ( Mr whippy 😍) the Cafe provides toilet facilities at the back. 2 Playgrounds one just for the little ones aswell as outdoor gym equipment. A fabulous lake to walk around whilst feeding the ducks, ( tip, buy your duck food at the Cafe its cheaper than the machine by the lake and you get more). If you don't fancy eating in the Cafe then get a takeaway, there's a huge field with a purpose built concrete all weather stage where the children can perform for you till their hearts content while you sit at a picnic table and enjoy your lunch. There are Tennis courts and a fabulous bowling green with benches all the way round to leisurely sit and enjoy the beautifully kept Gardens.

Good little park with plenty to do for kids with the play areas on show practically on entry with a small shop allowing you to get refreshments on a warm day. If your more inclined to do a spot of bird watching, the boating lake is the place for you! You can easily spot geese, goslings, ducks, the occasional swan and herons if you look closely. They also have a bird feed dispenser which takes contactless payments, so, if you have children with you you can give into their demands and pressure and allow them to feed the ducks. If none of this interests you then its always a nice scenic place to go for a walk around a lake on a sunny day.
