Spending the day at River Lee Country Park was a truly immersive nature experience. Stretching across 1,000 acres between Waltham Abbey and Broxbourne, this park is a stunning mosaic of flooded gravel pits, serene lakes, and vibrant marshes. It’s a paradise for anyone who loves the outdoors, offering everything from peaceful riverside walks to unique art trails. One of my favorite parts of the visit was exploring the Artway Trail, where I discovered incredible wooden sculptures like 'The Shrine' and 'The Giant’s Chair'. The wildlife here is equally impressive; the park is home to the Wildlife Discovery Centre, where you can spot rare birds like the Bittern or catch a glimpse of a Kingfisher darting across the water. Whether you are wandering through the wildflower meadows or watching the dragonflies at the Cornmill Meadows sanctuary, there is a sense of tranquil beauty at every turn. Tips for your visit: • Artway Trail: If you enjoy a mix of art and nature, follow this 5.5-mile route to see unique sculptures and stunning lakeside views. • Wildlife Watching: Head to the Wildlife Discovery Centre or the various bird hides for the best chance to see the park's diverse birdlife. • Dragonfly Sanctuary: Visit Cornmill Meadows between May and September to see one of the best dragonfly sites in the region. • Active Adventures: For those looking for more action, the park offers everything from cycling routes to white water rafting at the nearby Lee Valley White Water Centre. River Lee Country Park is a massive, beautiful escape that offers a perfect blend of recreation and conservation. A must-visit for any nature enthusiast! 🌳🦢🎨
A beautiful scenery of a crispy cold day, with sun's rays bringing warmth embracing us in calm atmosphere, connecting us to nature ... highly recommend, even when it is cold, we left feeling happy and content. 😊🌻
This park was very beautiful. I have been visiting here many times over the past years. On 9/9/2024, I found the best part between Hooks Marsh Car Park and Fishers Green Car Park to become the wost part! The plants have been left to overgrow and cover nearly everywhere! All those beautiful views of the past are no longer there. The rest of the park is not that bad. The park is very big with many lakes, waterways, footpaths and boathouses. However, there's only one public toilet at Fishers Green Car Park. This car park is monitored by many cameras. If you don't pay for your parking, you'll get a PCN! There are many towers carrying high power electric cables in the top half of the park.
River Lee Country Park in Cheshunt is a tranquil haven for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Spanning over 100+ acres, the park offers a diverse range of landscapes, from lush woodlands and open meadows to serene lakes and marshes. It's an ideal spot for walking, cycling, and birdwatching, with well-maintained paths and plenty of wildlife to observe. One of the park's standout features is its network of waterways, which adds to its charm and provides opportunities for activities like fishing and kayaking. The park is also dotted with picnic areas, making it perfect for family outings. The park's accessibility is another plus. It's easily reachable by public transport, with Cheshunt Station nearby, and has ample parking for those arriving by car. The peaceful atmosphere, combined with its natural beauty, makes River Lee Country Park a fantastic escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. However, some areas could benefit from more signage, as it can be easy to get a little lost, especially for first-time visitors. Despite this minor issue, the park's vastness and variety offer something for everyone, whether you're seeking a quiet spot to relax or an active day out exploring nature.
My sister and I came here for a roam around nature. It is very nice here and the water is serene and it is calm and peaceful. I wish I had a wire haired fox terrier crossed with a Jack Russell to walk alongside me. I would bring him here every day. I am now inspired to live on a boat on the canal.
