Nice steam train ride. Seems gotten expensive since my last visit a year ago. Parking is not included £6 . I enjoy Dungeness beach, pebble beach.

We have ridden the train from the Hythe to Dungeness on many occasions with the children but they are all grown up now. We were visiting Greatstone for a few days, and found the return ticket price a little high value from New Romney to Dungeness (£19.50), so we walked from New Romney to Dungeness, and got the train back. This was £13pp, and £1.50 for the dog. Adult fare for return @£30pp (March 2026) seemed expensive, but everything seems to be these days. We filmed steam on our walk but when boarding the train, it was diesel - a disappointment. We were the last train going back to the Hythe, so at New Romney, everything had started to close, and there were no loco's view.

I love this railway - there’s great fun for children, mums and dads and grandparents. The excitement of the engine chuffing and whistling is infectious. You can see the locomotives turn on the turntable at Hythe, pay a visit to the beach at St Mary’s and go up the lighthouse at Dungeness. There’s also great dining options at Hythe, New Romney and Dungeness. The staff and volunteers are always lovely and cheerful, and you can do short stops on a budget of go all the way from Hythe to Dungeness.

This is a fantastic day out for all ages, for train enthusiasts or those that just want a fun trip to the seaside. We visit regularly, but this time on RH Young Enthusiasts day, where I took my 5 year old for a day out exploring how railways work. We visited the signal box, model railways, train sheds, explored live railways track (with supervision) and enjoyed many train rides through the day. This is a great organisation, full of knowledgeable and friendly staff. Above all this was an amazing 5 star day, where we will absolutely visit again and again 🌟

I’ve been coming here since I was 3 and have been Trainspotting and making online content ever since. I would 100% recommend this railway to absolutely anyone. Doesn’t matter if it’s your first time or if you’ve been there 100 times the experience is always amazing, the staff members and volunteers are always extremely kind and helpful.
