RSPB Dungeness is a stunning nature reserve offering visitors the chance to experience diverse habitats including open shingle, freshwater pits, wet grassland, and vibrant wildflower meadows. The reserve is carefully managed to create ideal breeding conditions for rare species including Lapwings, Redshanks, Garganeys, and two uncommon bumblebee species. Throughout the year, visitors can observe spectacular wildlife displays. Spring and autumn bring hundreds of Swallows, Swifts, and martins feeding over Burrowes pit, while summer showcases colourful wildflowers attracting bees and butterflies, alongside the famous acrobatic performances of Hobbies hunting insects. Winter welcomes large numbers of waterfowl including Wigeons, Gadwalls, and various duck species. The reserve features well-maintained walking paths, observation hides for bird watching, and meadows perfect for picnicking. Families of all ages can enjoy exploring the natural landscape and discovering the abundant insect life and migratory birds. A mobility scooter is available for hire free of charge (booking required), making the reserve accessible to visitors with limited mobility. The Visitor Centre is typically open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-4pm.
