RSPB Tetney Marshes

Humberston, United Kingdom•4.6(701)•Country Park, Nature Reserve

Explore a wetland paradise on the Humber Estuary where thousands of waders and wildfowl gather, including rare Redshanks, Brent Geese, and Knots.

Tetney Marshes is a mosaic of coastal habitats featuring sandy beaches, dunes, mudflats, salty lagoons, and one of the east coast's largest areas of salt marsh. This RSPB nature reserve is a haven for wetland birds, with 70 pairs of Redshanks relying on the marsh and wintering populations of Twites and Hen Harriers. The specialized salty lagoons support rare wildlife including the Lagoon Sand Shrimp, while the intertidal mud provides essential habitat for waders and wildfowl. Visitors can experience the reserve's impressive wildlife spectacle, particularly in autumn and winter when flocks of birds gather in their tens of thousands. Birdwatchers may spot Dark-bellied Brent Geese, Knots, Grey and Golden Plovers, and Sanderlings among the vast congregations. The reserve's diverse habitats make it suitable for families interested in nature observation and learning about coastal ecosystems. The site is dog-friendly, with dogs on leads welcome on public footpaths. Access is free, though parking is available at the nearby Humberston Fitties car park owned by North East Lincolnshire Council. Please note the reserve has no on-site facilities such as toilets or baby-changing amenities, with the nearest facilities located in Cleethorpes.

I've given 5 star although the marches are quite a small area. However a little further along the coast by the haven caravan site i was able to see several times a glossy Ibis.

Great place, minimal foot traffic, out of the way of any kind of noise, it can be at least an hour walk, being able to relax in peace was just perfect & it has beautiful scenery.

Didn't get chance for a proper walk round, so I'll definitely be back, plenty of free parking

I love this end of Cleethorpes. You drive through Humberston fitties. The buildings are so quirky. The parking area is by the sailing club. I usually go in the week and not on the school holidays as it's hard to find a space to park. Lovely nature reserve and right next to the beach. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round here.

It's a nice place to walk around, We got to see just how big the wind turbines actually are close up, .... they're huge 😳! There's also the old army bunkers along the way to climb onto and look out to sea 🌊, and not forgetting, the ice-cream 🍦 van in the car park as well 😋 x
