Explore Saddleworth's rich heritage through engaging galleries, collections, and rotating art exhibitions in a beautifully restored 1862 building.

Saddleworth Museum and Gallery tells the story of a Yorkshire community on the Lancashire side of the Pennines through its carefully curated collection galleries. Housed in a meticulously restored building dating back to 1862, the museum presents its collections, shop, and facilities in a thoroughly modern way while preserving the historic fabric of the original structure. Visitors can discover how the people of Saddleworth have shaped their landscape and community character through engaging exhibitions and archives. The museum features multiple galleries showcasing collections and historical images, alongside a separate art gallery space that hosts varied art exhibitions. The canal-side community gallery provides additional exhibition space and hosts presentations and museum fundraising events throughout the year. Suitable for all ages and families, the museum is wheelchair friendly and welcomes visitors every afternoon from 1 to 4 pm. The venue offers a shop experience both onsite and online, and maintains active events and special activities run by the museum, its Friends group, and dedicated volunteers. As a registered charity and fully accredited museum, Saddleworth relies on visitor admissions and community support to continue its mission of preserving local heritage.

This is actually a really interesting museum that has pack a lot in to it. You'll get a wide range of information there and learn something you didn't know. Id recommend going. You might not take it all in, so consider going again. The exhibitions are detailed and interesting with plenty of artifacts to see. I really enjoyed going in there!

Good little museum and gallery with aim of showcasing and preserving Saddleworth’s landscapes, history and peoples. Good range of artefacts and exhibits with focus on Saddleworth’s place in Industrial Revolution. At £6 for family you can’t complain.

My wife and I decided to make a visit to this lovely little museum spread over 4 floors, and it cost us just 3 pounds each to get in great price, and the wonderful staff are so helpful and very welcoming . there is so much to read and see . well worth a visit they have costume for children to dress up in . they have a little shop and toilets for paying customers on the ground floor. So next time you're in Saddleworth / Uppermill, pay them a visit, and you will not be disappointed
