Lovely walks and things to look at. Thick woodland, litter free reservoir, big quarry with a walk and lots of dragonflies and wildlife. Pub at the entrance if you fancy a drink or some food when you’re done. Definitely loved by locals, has been saved from development previously and is great for kids and families. Free parking unless you are on the pub carpark, just provide registration for that.

I honestly think Saltwells is one of those places that people in the West Midlands take for granted until they actually spend a proper afternoon exploring it. It isn't your typical "swings and a slide" kind of park; it’s a massive, sprawling landscape that feels surprisingly remote considering how close it is to the hustle of Dudley and the Merry Hill shopping center. The absolute highlight for me is always Doulton’s Claypit. There is something incredibly peaceful about standing at the bottom of that massive hollow. It’s a bit eerie but in a good way you’re surrounded by these towering cliffs of red clay and grey stone that make you feel tiny. It’s the kind of spot where you can actually hear the wind in the trees and the birds chirping instead of the constant hum of traffic. The trails weave through ancient woodland and over various boardwalks, providing enough of a gradient to feel like a proper hike without being totally exhausting. If you go in late spring, the bluebells are so thick they look like a literal purple lake. It’s also pretty mind-blowing to see the "Black Seam" coal exposed right in the rock faces; it’s local history you can actually touch. Just a heads up if you’re planning to visit: bring proper boots. Because it’s kept natural, the clay turns into a thick, sticky mess after a bit of rain that will ruin your favorite trainers in seconds. It’s rugged, a bit muddy, and totally authentic the perfect place to disappear for two hours to clear your head.

Great day out, we followed the green arrows for the Daulton trail, the only reason I dropped it a star is because I printed a map off the website, and the map seemed to go in the opposite direction to what the sign posts took us? I thought the Daulton Claypit would be near the beginning of our walk, not near the end?

Beautiful nature reserve, great for walking the dogs with the family! In the spring and summer The whole nature reserve is layered with bluebells and is a really gorgeous place to go for a walk would recommend!

A nice enough walk, not very busy. We did the longest walk which was easy enough and I'm not really a walker! It was lovely to see horses roaming around freely in the hills.
