Sandy Lane Park

Chester, United Kingdom•4.3(768)•City Park, Playground

Enjoy riverside picnicking, water play with a 10-feature spray park, and adjacent playgrounds with stunning views of the River Dee and surrounding meadows.

Sandy Lane Park is a family-friendly destination situated on the banks of the River Dee, approximately 2.5 miles east of Chester city centre. The park features beautiful riverside views and provides a stimulating outdoor environment suitable for families with children of all ages. The main attraction is Sandy Lane Aqua Park, a seasonal water play facility operating from April to August. It includes a 10-feature spray facility ideal for younger children to cool off and have fun during warmer months. The facility is located close to a spacious grassed picnic area, making it perfect for families to spend a full day outdoors. Beyond the water park, visitors can enjoy an adjacent play area that offers views across the River Dee to the Meadows. The play area remains open year-round, even during winter months when the Aqua Park closes. Excellent parking facilities accommodate approximately 40 cars, and the park is accessible by pedestrian access from all sides. A unique feature is the Sandy Lane Ferry service, which operates weekends from May to September, offering affordable river crossings to the Meadows for just 50p per child. The park is dog-friendly and fully accessible for pushchairs, making it welcoming for families with young children and pets.

Nice splash park, could do with some minor cosmetic touch ups and some of the taps weren't working. I wish there was a small pool, even if it's just knee height. There are two playground adjacent, one for young children and one for slightly older. These were a nich touch. There are toilets on site, but the girls had run out of toilet roll The parking is free for 4 hours, which is great, albeit there isn't many parking spots, so this may be something to consider. Overall, I can recommend this place to those wanting a splash park that doesn't require pre booking.

My kids were happy to play here for a few hours. Water play right next to other playground stuff, tables, a bit of grass for sitting, and it was all fenced in. There was an ice cream truck there as well. Outside the fence there's more grassy area and paths for walking. *Car Park* there is a car park, but due to some road construction/closure, Google maps had me a bit turned around. We ended up parking one street up and walked through a path next to Wilmoor Hall, but as of 16/8/24 the road closure wouldn't have affected us parking on Sandy Lane.
