Just haven't really appreciated this little gem of a place before. But wow, its awesome. The river, the bird song. What a joy!
Having driven past this place for so many years & never really noticed it, I've been going here at least once a week for the past year or so & really love it! 😀 It's a lovely calming place to get some fresh air, whatever the weather. Sometimes there's cows either side of the river & they aren't at all phased by the humans wanting to go through their fields. There's so much nature to be spotted here; the dragonflies, damselflies, Demoiselle's, caterpillars and so many different birds, including Kingfishers, fungi and more! The bridge by the Meadows Business Park end has finally been rebuilt, so it can now safely be crossed once again. Parking is easy in the two small car parks - with accessible spaces and parent/child ones too. If you keep following the main path, you'll easily find your way into Sandhurst Memorial Park, which has a bigger car park, toilets (including a disabled one - so remember your Radar key!) children's play areas and the fabulous Sandhurst Cafe!
Beautiful scenery, pastures, river, trees, lake, wildlife and easy access by foot if you live in the area or use the free car parks
I take the dogs here for a walk along the river and around the lake there. Lovely countryside and the dogs can have a swim. There are cows there sometimes so be aware.
Very nice nature reserve, Shepherds Meadow comprises a largely flat fairly open river Meadows with the Blackwater River running through it. At the western end is a small lake with a variety of ducks, geese and other wild fowl. The path is concreted but can get muddy in some parts. Good for dog walking. Decent free car park.
