Interesting… But! I went in here thinking it was the main Dorchester museum and while it was interesting and had a good café, to pay over £22 for two people to see some cells and a courtroom didn’t feel value for money. Sure you have a year’s entrance to it with the ticket but there is very little to see for the cost. Couldn’t recommend it.
Great historical place to learn about Dorset and the beginning of workers unions. Excellent cafe, with good quality food and coffee, plus fast friendly, helpful service. Ideal for a social meetings or remote working.
Nice depiction of life back then - plus the old court plus tollpuddle martyrs
Started with a visit to the museum cafe for coffee and tea cakes. The museum is very interesting taking you through the history of the court house and cells. Small museum so be sure to take your time and read about everything or use a free audio guide. The ticket is valid for unlimited return visits for one year.
Helpful staff, good for an hours visit with cafe at the end serving good quality tea and cake and some gluten free options. The prison cells are well worth the visit and the court room is good for trying on the clothes and hats. Only dropped a star as price is £20 for a family of four and I find that higher than normal for a museum of this size. When we visited it had iPads and activities to keep the children amused. Although a paper leaflet would be a nice addition . Well worth a look if you are in the area. Free return for a year with family ticket.
