Visit websiteVery happy we decided to pay for entry to Sudeley Castle. My mom and I saw it on our hiking trip, and decided to stop by. From not even knowing about it to spending a few hours there was a happy surprise. The grounds are beautiful, and the gardens are really enjoyable to walk through. The history of the castle, the families who have been its caretakers over the years, and curent preservation updates were all so interesting to read about. The owners of the castle still live there, and a found a way to preserve its history by opening it to the public, and I really loved that that they were able to do that. Give yourself about 2 hours to read through the history of the house, overlapped with British history, and really explore. Be sure to spend some time checking out the ruins that were preserved after the castle was largely destroyed by the British government at one point. They also have a cafe on site, and both indoor and outdoor seating there.
Beautifully preserved castle in Winchcombe, Cheltenham. We opted for the daily tour, which cost an extra £5 per person, and it was absolutely worth it. I enjoyed learning about the castle's fascinating history spanning a 1000 years including that it is home to the only English queen buried on private land. All in all, it was an excellent half day experience and well worth a visit!
I was pleasantly surprised by this castle. The £5 extra for the tour is worth it and very history heavy which I liked. The gardens are beautiful and so well kept! I'm still telling people things I learned on my visit.
We had a lovely visit to the castle. Plenty of parking on arrival, and we used our Historic Houses membership, so just paid for the kids. We was given a quick briefing of what to see, and there is a suggested route to ensure you see everything there is to offer. With a mixture of gardens, castle and church there was a good mix of what to see and learn about. The kids particularly found the information on Henry 8th interesting, specifically Katherine Parr who was buried here. We ended the visit with a hot drink and a play on the adventure playground - we hope to visit again at some point!
First time we visited this privately owned castle, park and gardens. Really interesting and well run, with friendly staff and volunteers in the castle. Lots of history connected to the castle, lovely grounds and seating areas with televisions and well made films about the history and the present family. We particularly enjoyed the walk from the secret garden down past , driftwood animals, lake , lovely spring flowers back to pavilion cafe. Play area for children and picnic, definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
