The Goffs Park Light Railway

Crawley, United Kingdom•4.6(206)•City Park, Heritage Site

Ride miniature steam and electric locomotives on a historic 380-metre circuit built and operated by volunteers since 1962.

The Goffs Park Light Railway is a charming heritage attraction operated entirely by the Crawley Model Engineers, a nonprofit club founded in 1962. Visitors can enjoy passenger rides aboard miniature 5-inch gauge locomotives on an elevated 1,250-foot circuit featuring both steam and battery-electric engines. Each ride takes approximately 2½ to 3 minutes to complete and costs just 80 pence per person. The railway operates every Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday from 2pm to 5pm (weather permitting) during the season from late March to late October. The venue features an impressive collection of 6 locomotives including coal-fired steam engines named Arthur and Tilly, plus electric Class 66, Class 08, and Class 42 locomotives. The track includes two cuttings and has ruling grades of approximately 1 in 100 with sections of 1 in 80. Located in Goffs Park, just 1 mile west of Crawley High Street, this is an ideal destination for families with children and railway enthusiasts of all ages. The venue also welcomes private bookings for children's playgroups, Guides, Scouts, and structured associations on weekdays. Visitors can purchase commemorative lapel pin badges of the locomotives, and the site features volunteer-run maintenance sessions where members meet regularly to maintain this beloved local landmark.

Wonderful little thing to do with the kids in Crawley! Staff are kind and engaging, the kids love it and it was 80 pence a ride at the time of our visit, so definitely a cheap day out with the kids!
