An excellent experience. The wheel itself is interesting, with it's history and the engineering involved. There's also some interesting quirky little shops nearby, do do explore. It's not really suitable if you are of limited mobility - the wheel itself has several parts accessible via stairs, some steep. The top of the wheel is accessible via two sections of a tight, narrow spiral staircase
Lovely location, fascinating place. You can climb right to the top of the wheel and watch it go round, and enjoy the views. Also a short bit of mine to go in, just at ground level, and nature trails to explore other parts.
We only had short time to visit walked from car park. Entry £14 per person no one in group bothered with lack of time. If not visiting inside walk along bottom road past fire station. Don't go across wooden bridge keep straight on then follow road around up hill. Can take photos from here.
We're visited in a nice blue sky April day and it's great for a trip to see how things were built in the past. There's a steep climb to the top to see the wheel turning and it was very impressive. I wouldn't have paid entrance alone for this as you can see it from the car park but we had a heritage pass so it's read included. There's also a very small mine you can go down included in the tour about 30 metres in length.
It's been a number of years since I went here but Google are asking me to review it and I can't think that much will have changed. The Laxey Wheel is an amazing feat of engineering to achieve something relatively simple by today's standards, so if you have an enquiring mind then you'll love it! It's also a nice walk around the outside of the mine and you can go up some steep stairs to the top of the wheel, so it's not really for wheelchair users or those with mobility problems.
