The Red Kite Feeding Station

Llanddeusant, United Kingdom•4.6(564)•Nature Reserve, Wildlife Center

Watch spectacular red kites and birds of prey dive and feed daily from a specially built hide in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The Llanddeusant Red Kite Feeding Station offers visitors a unique wildlife experience in one of Wales' most beautiful natural settings. Opened in 2002 through a partnership with the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Welsh Red Kite Trust, this feeding centre provides an exceptional opportunity to observe red kites, buzzards, ravens and other birds of prey in their natural behavior. Visitors sit in a specially constructed hide positioned just feet away from the feeding area, allowing for intimate observation of these magnificent birds competing naturally for food. Daily feeding times are scheduled at 3:00pm during British Summer Time and 2:00pm during other months, with the centre remaining open throughout the year. No advance booking is required for individual visitors. The venue is particularly popular with wildlife photographers of all skill levels, as the birds approach close enough to be captured on camera. Whether you're a dedicated ornithologist, keen photographer, or simply a family wanting to experience Welsh wildlife, the feeding station provides an unforgettable encounter with some of Britain's most iconic birds of prey. Large groups are welcome and can arrange visits by contacting the venue via email or Facebook.

Lovely place to visit to see wild red kite's up close feeding. There must of been 40+ flying around. I will definitely be visiting again.

Wonderful place to see red kites feeding. Remember to bring cash, as they no longer take card. Also expect to be patient - feeding can take a long time, and they are wild birds, so they do only come if they are hungry. That said, it is still a good experience and well worth the wait.

Great afternoon out seeing such a large amount of Red Kites in one place, well over a hundred! Run by a lovely couple, very helpful and informative, with both outside and covered (hides) viewing facilities. 😃

Great place to visit. The sign is a little worn out but still readable, but this did make me wonder if they are still open. Well they are definitely still open! And have been for 27 years, the red kites want their food! It was so much fun and such beautiful birds to see up close. Would highly recommend. And as an added bonus, the drive to the station is truly stunning.

Speaking from a photographer’s point of view, I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit here today. Well sign-posted. Location is very isolated so we took our own refreshments and eat and drunk in the car-park after the Feeding of the Kites ended at approx 3.10pm. The kite feeding center is a 5min walk down the road from the Car-park. Feeding commenced at 2pm. The present owner is selling-up and present land owner (farmer) is taking over the Feeding. The present owner was really nice and so was his Mrs. There are two large hides with plenty of openings and seats. You can stand outside the Hides but, the Kites are aware of this and keep circling rather than swoop down.
