Great museum to see the carriages and vehicles from the British Royals. You can find the horses that are being in used, the carriages that are used and have been used for Royal Ceremonies and the collection of modern vehicles used today.
Come here to see the royal carriages including the historic carriage used for the coronation of King Charles III. Unlike the King's Gallery around the corner there were no lines and tickets were available. Several spectacular carriages and some oddities such as Queen Victoria's Pony Phaeton and a sleigh that was a gift from Canada. Also one notable Rolls-Royce state car.
I love horses, and I'd always wanted visit The Royal Mews. Not a horse in sight. You can see some of the carriages you see from trooping the colour. Mainly the enclosed carriages, none of the open carriages. Would have been to walk around more of the carriages. Many were squeezed into a small space. £18 for a ticket.
A wonderful place to visit. I joined in with one of the free tours, which gave lots of details - definitely recommended, but not with young children/babies. I was there in late afternoon, so only saw a couple of horses who were napping. I would go earlier in the day next time (use your ticket to gain free entry within a year) and then there would be more activity. The carriages are amazing. Such a beautiful location and buildings. Very friendly staff. Excellent gift shop, but I would have liked to have seen specific gifts for The Mews - equestrian related and the carriages.
The Royal Mews is an outstanding visit and far more impressive than many expect. The collection of historic carriages, state coaches, and royal transport is presented beautifully, offering a fascinating look into the ceremonial traditions and grandeur of the British monarchy. The craftsmanship and detail on display are extraordinary, and the famous Gold State Coach is especially remarkable to see in person. Allow enough time to explore carefully, as there is more to see than the venue’s modest size may suggest, and be sure to read the exhibits or use the guide materials to fully appreciate the history behind each piece.
