This is a great museum has lots of exhibitions and well laid out. It is specious and has paintings ceramics and archeological ruins. There is much to see and we spent over two hours there.
A great museum with very well arranged and labelled exhibits and friendly staff. It's another case of there being more packed into this museum than it looks from the outside.
The museum is housed in a former bishop’s residence dating back 800 years. The staff (who are very friendly) mentioned that it has been recently renovated, and the exhibitions offer a clear and up-to-date account of Salisbury’s history. Highly recommended for history lovers.
A very nice museum. We came here with low or no expectations, but it turned out to be much more interesting than we expected. The exhibitions, especially those on the ground floor, are very extensive and well organized. There are activities even for children and the museum staff was friendly.
Their Wessex gallery takes you back in time to the Stone Age. My favourite item is a jade axe head: perfectly formed, with a polished finish, yet about 6000 years old. In another part of the museum, learn about local spitfire manufacture during WW2. And there's loads more... Currently there is a small but excellent exhibition about Elizabeth Frink showing something of her life, a few pieces of smaller scale sculpture and her 2D art work. If the weather is good you can have coffee and cake on the front lawn with a excellent view of the cathedral. Well worth a visit, in fact worth several visits.
