Visit websiteSuitable for kids (primary school) to explore the science. The Minibrum is designed for children to enjoy free play. However, some of the toys are missing or put into wrong places. The food and environment of the cafe is good. Overall speaking, it is a good place to spend few hours there.
Myself, my mum, my three children a friend and his daughter visited think tank for my daughter's 8th birthday. It isn't the first time we've been, however the last time was approximately 2 years ago. I booked tickets online before going using a discount code. We walked from Birmingham new street station, following Google maps. It was fairly easy to find, it took around 20 minutes. On arrival there was one family in front of us but we were called to the front within a couple of minutes. The man that checked our tickets was very nice, he gave us a run through of what was showing at the planetarium (my mum and my daughter booked to see the show about Artemis) I believe the tickets for this were an additional £3.50 each which were well worth it apparently. He told us where we could find the area to eat our lunch, he gave the children trail papers which they could stamp on the way round the museum and told us to have a good day. Now getting onto the actual museum, we were all rather disappointed with the interactive side of things, alot of the interactive things didn't work, the buttons didn't do anything, or bits were missing which is a real shame. I feel that the museum could do with spending some money on this to get them all back up to scratch and In working order again. It does seem to be quite outdated and it could really do with a good upgrade to certain parts. It hasn't changed at all since we were last there. I think the best part of the museum now is the science garden outside, all the children seemed to really enjoy it, although again some of the things weren't working. We went up to mini Brum on the third floor which again could really do with some more bits getting for the various different areas they have up there. Overall it's a nice day out, however had I have paid the full amount for tickets to get in I would have been making a complaint because as mentioned above it was rather disappointing in regards to the interactive exhibits not working and or bits being missing.
Good place to visit. Changed since last trip...4th floor has completely changed. Excellent role play areas for younger children. Would highly recommend, can book out for parties too
Very varied science museum which seems popular with families with young children. For me it was a bit of a curates egg. Great ground floor with lots of iconic hardware from planes to pumps and trains to motorcycles. First floor was a bit bland by comparison and was much less interactive. Second floor was a slightly odd mix of futuristic and natural world. Third floor was dominated by a large play space that was being enjoyed by families with under 5 year old. Rather an expensive outing costing £52.50 for a family of 4 and without gift aid or any extras.
We loved our visit here. The kids loved every minute spent at the Thinktank. There's so much to see... and so much to do. We didn’t get to see the whole place even though we spent almost 3hours here! Our visit here was definitely one of the highlights of the day. We will love to visit again.
