What a fantastic museum to have to yourself on a hot Saturday in June. Why it isn't busier, heaven only knows. It's one of the best museums I've been to in a long while, and I'm no stranger to museums. It is so well done. Don't be fooled by the name and don't think it is only about herrings—which it most certainly is not. Having said that, the way the herring trade is brought to life is both entertaining and informative, but the rest of the museum is equally worth a visit. Take, for instance, the recreation of "The Rows"—the narrow streets that dominated Great Yarmouth prior to the war—or the trip through the ages from the Ice Age to the modern day; it is all so well done. I was going to give the exhibition on Pirates a miss, thinking it would only be of interest to kids, but I'm so glad I didn't as it was brilliant. If you are visiting Great Yarmouth, make sure to pay this museum a visit. You won't be disappointed!
Visited with my son and partner. When we entered we quickly realised we had visited before many moons ago. Happy we revisited though as it's a very well managed museum with so much local history of the fishing industry locally and of other things too. Good for both kids and adults.
Visited Time and Tide museum Great Yarmouth and really enjoyed it some great exhibits to look at and great information about the herring fleets that sailed from Yarmouth Well worth a visit 👍👍
This is an absolutely fascinating museum which really has something for everyone. It is unbelievably well-curated and -executed. There are a good café, good loos and a nice shop. The atmosphere is wonderful. The whole place reeks of local and wider history, from a thousand years ago up to last century, focusing on history, commerce and, above all, people. Nothing about it is worn or tatty, it's great for kids to explore and learn things and it's as interactive as you want it to be. There's even a brilliant exhibition to celebrate the first seventy years of Miffy! You must go! Finally, if you have any negative thoughts about Great Yarmouth, throw them aside.
Definitely worth visiting. Give yourself plenty of time. So at least 2 hours. You could easily go longer.Lots of things to keep both young and old entertained. We booked the tickets online. There's a carpark nearby if you're driving. Staff were kind and helpful. There was a special exhibition of 50 years of Miffy which was equally enjoyable. Certainly recommend as an great day out for the family
